Once you are settled, the next big question - where (and what) to eat ! Ericeira is known as a gastronomically hotspot in the Lisbon area, supplied with fresh fish and seafood from its local harbour. Over 30 restaurants in Ericeira and at least another 30 in the surrounding neighbourhood provide a wide selection of local and international kitchen. Fish, seafood, meat, vegetarian, Brazilian, Italian, fast-food: you name it - you find it. For lunch, many restaurants offer a daily special, just look around for the hand-written offers. Unfortunately, what's on the daily menu is mostly not translated, so you better get yourself a good dictionary. But it's worth trying: you'll find delicious traditional recipes for an economic price. At night, specially on weekends and in summer, you might get a strange feeling when you sit down in one of the town's restaurants. You mostly see foreign people checking the menus, but where are the locals? Well, just go for a walk after dinner and come by the same place one or two hours later. You'll be surprised, here they are: like in other South-European countries, the Portuguese eat very late, often starting after 10pm. And a last hint: Don't be afraid to try out as many restaurants as possible, they all have different specialities like catch of the day, special cut (meat) of the day, etc... |
