SANTA CATARINA, Brazil - Tiago Pires (Ericeira, PRT) won his Round 1 battle in style and ahead of nine-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater (Florida, USA), 38. Pires, who had had a good start to the year counting an equal 9th finish in the last event at Bells Beach, showed he was again ready to do well on the Brazilian beachbreaks, and will try and make his first ASP World Tour event final this week.
